Honeywell Pentax ES II with SMC Takumar 50mm f/1.4

The Pentax ES was the world's first 35mm SLR with a fully electronic shutter system. The second generation ES II brings further refinements to this revolutionary system.

For the ES II, the battery compartment was moved to the base of the camera, below the lens mount. A self timer was added. The shutter release lock was incorporated to prevent accidental meter activation or firing of the shutter and for time exposures. A viewfinder blind was added to prevent stray light from affecting automatic meter readings when the camera is used on a tripod, microscope or telescope device for time-exposures where it would be likely that the photographer would not be looking in the viewfinder. As with the ES, the shutter speed selected may be seen in the viewfinder in automatic mode.

You simply focus and shoot. The patented Pentax memory device computes and delivers an infinite number of exposures between 8 and 1/1000 second - automatically. If 1/555 second will give you the right exposure, that's what you'll get.

No needles to match. No time consuming computing of exposures when your subject moves from sunlight to shadow. So fast and easy that even a beginner can take great pictures.

There are plenty of built-in creative options. For special effects, you can automatically program for under or over-exposure. Or you can override the automation completely by flipping the dial to manual.

Other fine features on the ES II include: Self Timer, FP or X sync PC Terminals; battery check; rapid rewind lever; X sync hot shoe; and special blinds that close off viewfinder during those situations where light entering the viewfinder could adversely affect the meter reading.

Because the automation is built in to the body of this camera, no special lenses are needed. You can use any of the Takumars or screw mount lenses you already own or any of the 24 flare-taming Super-Multi-Coated Takumars available. Extension tubes, microscopes and special macro lenses can also be used automatically.

Honeywell Pentax ES II with SMC Takumar 50mm f/1.4
SMC Takumar 50mm f/1.4 The Pentax ES II utilizes the last generation screw-mount Super-Multi-Coated Takumar lenses. In addition to the legendary flare control and color fidelity that has made these lenses so popular, the SMC lenses are designed to allow open aperture metering on the ES, ESII and Spotmatic F. The viewfinder remains bright under all conditions, making focusing easy. In the event that earlier lenses without the open-aperture metering coupling, the ESII provides stop-down metering with the familiar switch near the lens mount. In any case, the meter is activated by partially depressing the shutter release button.
Be assured the Pentax engineers didn't let automation compromise the classic Pentax styling and "feel." All electronic elements are tucked neatly into the camera's baseplate. As a result, the ES II is less than one-quarter inch taller and only six ounces heavier than the Spotmatic F. Honeywell Pentax ES II with SMC Takumar 50mm f/1.4
