The 70-150mm lens is a multi-purpose lens.  This is one of the most versatile lenses - good for distant subjects and excellent for close-ups, sporting events, landscapes and portraits.  You can shoot from as close as 6.33 feet or from long distances, under just about any average light conditions.  For extra stability, the lens features a rotating tripod mount collar.  This lens can take the place of three or four fixed-focal length lenses, making it an economical lens to own.  With a little bit of creativity, this lens can produce images possible only with a zoom lens.

Construction

Lens, hood, caps, case and attachment lens (not shown) Asahi Optical began manufacturing specialized lenses in 1919, and has been producing lenses for general photography since 1932, twenty years before the Pentax, the first SLR camera from Japan - was manufactured.

Painstaking hand craftsmanship, the highest quality raw materials and the most advanced technological know-how are combined in the manufacture of each Super Takumar.

In the beginning, lens design required logarithmic tables, slide rules- and great patience. It often took three competent designers several years of steady work to complete the computation of a single 4-element lens. Today, Asahi utilizes the most modern electronic computer equipment which performs extremely complicated calculations very rapidly and with great accuracy.
Fine optics alone cannot make a superior lens; the mechanical components are equally important. Lens barrels of Super Takumar lenses are precision machined for accurate positioning of all elements. Tolerances are so tight you have to break a vacuum to disassemble some elements. Each Super Takumar has dust and moisture-proof seals and a special diaphragm damper that cuts down on wear, vibration and bounce so you get consistent aperture openings.

Screw mounts are the most precise method of holding a lens firmly in place. Perfectly matched threaded mountings on Super Takumar make changing lenses quick and easy - even in the dark.

Zoom Action & Close-Up

Super Takumar-Zoom 70-150mm f/4.5 The Takumar-Zoom lens features the same automatic diaphram found in all Super-Takumar lenses.  The focus can be adjusted similtaneously with the zooming action.  Just turn the zoom-focus ring to focus, and at the same time slide it back and forth to zoom.  This is possible because the focus and zoom are independent - an exclusive feature which permits fast-action shooting even while zooming.
The calibration on the lens barrel shows the focal length for any zooming position, (but this need not be consulted because optimum picture composition and area can be easily determined through the viewfinder). Zoom Scale
Distance Scales When you want to shoot at a closer range than the zoom lens focusing will permit, attach the supplied attachment lens (stored inside the lid of the case).  Focusing is now possible within the range indicated by the white calibration (in meters).
Once focused, the Takumar zoom lens maintains the focus setting even while zooming.  It is a good practice to focus at the maximum focal length, i.e. with the largest possible image, and then zoom back to the desired field of view.  This ensures maximum focus accuracy. Case Cover latch detail
